Final Reflection

I think the thing that sticks out as the most formative experience this semester would be the experience of doing the elevator pitch three times. As much as I really did not enjoy getting in front of the camera and forcing myself to do something that was uncomfortable, by the third time I really did see improvement. I remember early on in the semester thinking, "Three times?! We have to do it three times?" I hate to admit it, but I'm actually glad we did. The third time I recorded my elevator pitch I was really proud of the improvement I had seen in myself. Also, the experience of having to do peer reviews and give feedback proved to be very fulfilling. Most classes where we have to give feedback it ends up being "Hey, great job!" but no real honest feedback. I felt like I really engaged with my group members and it was reciprocated. Looking back, the feedback I got from them really helped me develop my idea, and it was really fun to see them grow their ideas and take my feedback into consideration as well.

I definitely think I have moved closer to having an entrepreneurial mindset. At the beginning of the semester I was super fascinated with entrepreneurship and I listened to a ton of podcasts to learn more about entrepreneurs and their journeys to success, but I struggled with how to get started. It seemed impossibly difficult. This class really helped me get a better understanding of each step in the process of developing an idea. Now, at the end of the semester, I feel so much more confident in my abilities to find opportunities and build a business idea. It doesn't seem as intimidating anymore.

My biggest recommendation for students who are going to journey down this path in the future would be that you get out what you put in. At times it can get really overwhelming when assignments pile up and school gets really intense, but this class can offer so much more if you put in the effort. This work in this class isn't just busy work and doing the minimal amount of work to earn an A. Each assignment has a lesson to teach you and it requires quite a bit of effort, but it is so worth it. I would also say to find a way to connect your business idea to your passions. For me, making my business idea centered around healthy eating and sustainability made me way more excited and fired up to do the work and learn more about how to bring my idea to life.

  1. Hi Grace,
I noticed that you did not include an image, so maybe you could go back and edit one in to make sure you get points:) Other than that I really enjoyed your post. I like your advice that even though the work can seem like busywork, that you can learn something if you do more than hurriedly completing them for an A. I truly believe this class is what you make it since it has an online platform and is based on honesty.

  2. Hi Grace! I couldn't agree more, this class can be very challenging, especially with everything else going in college, but if you develop a business that your passionate about, it makes things much easier. Time management is also critical because things can really start to pile up if you wait for tommorow. Overall, as you said, what you put in is what you get out. This class really prepares you to think like an entrepreneur and start a business, approaching it from all different angles.

  3. The elevator pitch was also my most memorable experience. It was nice to be reviewed by my peers instead of a teacher for this purpose. The completion grade made it easy to focus on the content and delivery of the pitch, which got better with each take. I also said the same words when it came to this class. You DO get out of it what you put into it. All assignments had a purpose even if you didn’t know what it was supposed to teach you at the time. Good luck on your future endeavors and it was great working with you!
